2010 Reindeer Dash for Cash Success

December 20, 2010

Even with the extreme cold and snowfall the day before we still had our largest year yet.  We had 804 registered, 702 finishers in the US.  Our Iraq sister run had another 150 runners.

Thanks to our runners and our wonderful sponsors we raised $15,000 for college scholarships.   Our best year ever!!  Scholarships are awarded in memory of Capt Chris Cash at East Carolina University, Pitt Community College, NC Wesleyan College and the NCNG Educational Foundation.

Thanks to Bethann Wilkie we had a very special and meaningful t-shirt this year.  I’ve had a few people ask about it so I would like to explain.  The front of the t-shirt contains the names of the 503 US troops killed in combat since the 2009 Reindeer Dash for Cash.   Along with our reindeer logo the front also contains a gold star to honor the 503 troops.  The military uses service banners to honor those serving and those killed.  The service banner contains a blue star to represent a deployed loved one, a silver star to represent and honor a wounded, and the gold star to represent and honor a fallen.  With the Christmas season upon us let us remember those that serve and are away from home, and please remember the family members of those that have died for our country.

I would like to say thank you to my wonderful race committee that do so much to make this race what it is.  Thank YOU Amber Vance, Bethann Wilkie, Dave Lovelace, Karen & Rob Harrington, Keith Corder, Patti Ellingson, Will Moore, 1SG Robert Overby and SGM Kevin Whitaker.

Thanks again for joining us and hope to see you on December 4, 2011 for our 7th Annual Reindeer Dash for Cash.  Please visit our website for more details in 2011.
